Yes, we know. This should have been posted a while ago. There was so much background work going on in recent months that we deliver it now for historical purposes.
The Luisenstraße in Wuppertal-Elberfeld is perhaps one of the best-known quarters of the city, especially popular among students and tourists. One of its most unusual locations provided the settting for a reissue of the Science Fiction Ladies Night, a group reading of three contemporary German female science fiction writers. The first event of this kind took place in 2012 when Gabriele Behrend, Nadine Boos and Gloria Manderfeld read from their works.
On July 7th the World Culture Hub team welcomed Anja Bagus from Cologne, Jacqueline Montemurri from Velbert and Regina Schleheck from Leverkusen for a group reading that was meant to reflect latest developments in contemporary German science fiction. Fiction readings have a hard time nowadays against the sensory overload of mainstream media, so we can count it a success that ten listeners joined us in the Wandelgarten, a lovely place for relaxation and events created by local citizens on a empty, publicly owned plot. It was an evening not without challenges for the three writers and presenter Thorsten Küper who not only introduced the ladies but also joined into scenic readings of several of their stories. We had to compete, among others, with singers of a Russsian wedding nearby and with a Latin street combo that unexpectedly showed up.
Below some impresssions of the evening.
